Super Summer Camp Resgistration
SSC is sponsored by the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) so there is no cost to attend. SSC provides children who are blind, vision impaired, or deafblind age 8 through the completion of the tenth grade an opportunity to have a summer camp experience by participating in activities, practicing independent living skills, and making new friends. The week long camp is residential and activities include: independent living skills, swimming, canoeing, fishing, hiking, archery, rock wall climbing, horseback riding, goal ball, and arts and crafts.
We also have 6 volunteer Jr. Counselor In Training (CIT) positions available for high school students age 16 and older who have previously attended Camp and are interested in being a mentor. If a student is interested in being a Jr. CIT they must apply through the same registration link and reach out to Caren Phipps at DBVI and obtain a Volunteer Application. Once the Jr. CIT Application is returned, a phone interview will be scheduled.
SSC is held at Camp Easterseals which is located in New Castle, VA near Roanoke. In addition to the Camp Easterseals staff (a Nurse is at SSC all week), camp staff includes Teachers of the Visually Impaired, staff with O&M and interpreting skills, and DBVI Education Services staff. An Open House will be held the first day of camp, Sunday July 24 from 12:00 to 4:00, so families of future campers can visit and see what Super Summer Camp is all about, so please spread the word!Registration
